Student government in an international school plays a vital role in enhancing the overall school experience. Not only does it facilitate leadership opportunities for our students, but it creates a space for promoting diversity, bridging cultural gaps, supporting the student voice through a democratic process, and nourishing our school community.
We are pleased to introduce our newly elected President, Ebba, and Vice President, Olivia, as they share with us their thoughts on their new roles:
EBBA
After 12 incredible years at our school, I am beyond proud and honoured to step into the role of President for this year’s Student Government.
My own experiences here have been very meaningful to me, and I want to ensure that every student has the chance to feel the same way. For a few years now, I’ve felt that BISS has drifted away from the values and traditions that once defined our school’s identity. This year, I’m committed to working closely with both our student body and administration in order to rekindle the atmosphere that made our school special.
One of my primary goals as President is to foster stronger communication between the student body and student government. I know firsthand how important it is to feel like your opinions matter, and I’m committed to turning ideas into actions. This year, I want to fulfil big initiatives, and in doing so we need to get the biggest body of our school involved: the students. I firmly believe that the most crucial step in moving forward is encouraging our students to work closely with us in Student Government projects.
Moreover, through student-led initiatives, I want to encourage students to be their best, not just academically, but personally and socially as well. I aim to create more spaces where students feel encouraged to take the lead, propose new ideas, and help shape the school. Whether it’s through leadership programs, community projects, or creative events, I want everyone to feel like they have a place in our community, and I will work tirelessly to make sure these aren’t just words on paper.
Moving into this school year, I’m aiming to achieve great things. I want us to not only demonstrate that we’ve made meaningful improvements, but that the improvements we made truly meant something to our students.
OLIVIA
As elected Vice President, I am truly honoured and excited to step into this role and positively impact the collective experience at BISS.
Deciding to run for Vice President meant having the opportunity to inspire my peers to discover their inner leaders and encourage my generation to raise their voices. Even early in the campaign process, something was perfectly clear to me: being elected would mean more than holding a title; it would make me a guide for students to discover their potential and give me the opportunity to show them how to approach challenges with enthusiasm for change.
With being chosen by students to represent their concerns and wishes came a tremendous responsibility. Nevertheless, imagining how my efforts would contribute to a more efficient, inclusive, and enjoyable school experience for the rest is truly rewarding. To me, it is sincerely gratifying to foster the importance of commitment, modesty, and passion—qualities that are crucial in a leader.
Coming forward, stepping into my role as Vice President, my focus will be to enhance communication and collaboration. Alongside the President, I plan to develop an online newspaper, which will help streamline the flow of information and keep everyone at BISS informed. Transparency is key to my vision for this role—being a bridge that connects students and their teachers is a privilege and an exciting challenge. Beyond the creation of the newspaper, I am committed to organising fun events, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging innovation. I will strive to improve everyone’s experience at BISS with the use of everyone’s suggestions and look forward to all we will achieve this year together.
